Our Institution

Since 1969, an Argentine school in Washington, DC: our history, our mission and the plan ahead.

A message from the Principal

Welcome to Escuela Argentina!

It is an honour to welcome you to Escuela Argentina.

For 57 years, our school has worked to strengthen the ties with our language, our culture and our roots through an educational program grounded in academic excellence. Centred on the language, literature and history of Argentina, our program seeks not only for our students to know and value their cultural heritage, but also to develop the tools they need to understand the world around them.

Our teachers work collaboratively to meet the particular needs of our program and of each of our students. They support them as they develop critical thinking, communication skills and a global outlook, preparing them to move with confidence through a diverse, inclusive and ever-changing world.

Every Saturday we celebrate Escuela Argentina as a meeting place. A place where generations, stories, cultures and diverse experiences come together. A place where families build new bonds and our students discover that their roots can accompany and enrich them as they prepare to be part of an increasingly global world. A space where students learn to live between two cultures, to recognise and value their roots while building their own identity in the context in which they grow up. A space where they can feel part of both realities and discover that belonging to more than one culture is a gift.

After 57 years, we renew our deep commitment to our cultural heritage, our traditions and customs, while looking to the future and continuing to seek new ways to support our students in their academic and personal growth.

I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our history, our values, our mission and our academic goals, and to discover everything we have built together over these 57 years. I invite you to get to know us and to discover what it means to be part of Escuela Argentina.

Our history

Ten children in the Oval Room

On September 20, 1969, ten children sat with their notebooks on their laps in the Oval Room of the Argentine Embassy in Washington, DC. That is how our story began.

Founded by the Comisión Esperanza de Damas Argentinas (CEDA), our school was a pioneer in offering part-time education with Argentine content, complementary to the schooling children received in their country of residence.

Ever since, we have kept connecting generations, sharing our language, our traditions and our culture, no matter the distance.

Our legacy

A legacy of generations

Escuela Argentina de Washington, D.C. was born on September 20, 1969, from the vision and commitment of a group of Argentine women gathered in the Comisión Esperanza de Damas Argentinas (CEDA), who dreamed of creating a space to keep our language, our culture and our roots alive.

Among them, we especially want to honour Ángela “Angelita” Torchia-Estrada, a pivotal figure since the School’s beginnings, who for more than 45 years devoted her work and commitment to its administration and growth.

Our deepest gratitude to them and to everyone who, over these decades — administrators, teachers, families, collaborators and friends — made it possible, through their effort, vocation and dedication, for the School to grow and endure.

Escuela Argentina is a collective creation and a legacy of generations. To all who dreamed it, made it real and continue to sustain it: our recognition and gratitude.
